In celebration of REIX’s 30th anniversary, we’re profiling some of the people behind the scenes so we can put faces to names and learn a little bit more about them (for instance, what they doing in 1991 and do they have a motto?)
What do you like most or find the most interesting about working for REIX?
I really enjoy the staff here. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and make you feel like part of the team! The most interesting thing about working for REIX is all the different types of claims and events that we deal with. No two files are ever alike, and it is very fascinating to see how we deal with them and to read about each one!
What is one thing you think makes a successful agent?
Being up to date on their education and latest trends/news regarding real estate. The industry is constantly changing and it is important for agents to be well versed in what is going on so they can better help their clients and themselves.
What is your motto?
“If it was easy, everyone would do it.” Not everything in life is easy or attainable and that is why it is so important to always give it your all and put effort into everything you do. It won’t be easy all the time, but that is what makes it worth it and that is what will make you stand out.
If you could wave a magic wand and fix one thing in the industry, what would it be?
Formal education is important and I believe it would be very beneficial for the education for the industry to come from one place, instead of from multiple sources. It is very easy to get mixed messages or guidance around certain topics, so to have it all centralized could really benefit the industry.
What were you doing in 1991?
I wasn’t born yet! Hahaha.
What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in real estate and/or insurance over the past several years?
The biggest changes I have seen are the ones regarding the Regulator. A lot has happened and been discovered regarding RECA and the industry needs to have faith and confidence in their regulatory body
What is the best gift you’ve ever received?
My Apple Watch. It was a Christmas gift I received a few years ago and I’ve grown so accustomed to it. I cannot go without it. If anything was to happen to the watch, I’d spend the money to get another one!
What is something you enjoy doing that you think no one would expect from you?
I really enjoy music! I used to play the saxophone, drums and piano (by ear only). I still try to play every now and then, but life (sometimes) gets in the way!
How do you spend your time when you’re not working for REIX?
Enjoying the weather (or at least trying to when it’s nice!), watching Netflix, and Zoom calls with family and friends.
The Real Estate Insurance Exchange (REIX) provides mandatory errors and omissions insurance to approximately 13,500 Alberta and Saskatchewan real estate industry members and protects them from financial loss due to negligent acts while performing their real estate duties. Follow us on Facebook!
