In celebration of REIX’s 30th anniversary, we’re profiling some of the people behind the scenes so we can put faces to names and learn a little bit more about them (for instance, what they doing in 1991 and do they have a motto?)

What do you like most or find most interesting about working for REIX?
I like that REIX is not the average insurance company. I love that the premium can be so low for such a large amount of coverage due in part to great investment strategies and a very small and wonderful administration staff that I regard as family now.
What is one thing you think makes a successful agent?
I think the most successful agents I know really enjoy what they are doing. They love the fast pace, challenges and chaos of being in the industry. They really enjoy making their customers happy.
What is your motto?
Be kind.
If you could wave a magic wand and fix one thing in the industry, what would it be?
Most of my friends in the industry have a hard time balancing work and family as the hours are so unpredictable. I wish there were more hours in a day so they could get a full night sleep. You did mention a magic wand, so I went all out on my wish.
What were you doing in 1991?
I was living in Regina and preparing to move to Calgary to attend AUARTs (formerly ACAD). I was working at Queen City Cleaners, South Sask. Auction and the Austrian Club all at the same time to save up for the move. It makes me tired thinking about those days
What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in real estate and/or insurance in the past 30 years?
There seems to be many more natural disasters as the years go by. I see increases in premiums everywhere. Except at REIX.
What is the best gift you’ve ever received?
That’s a hard one. The most memorable was a baby Holly Hobby doll I saw at Sears. On Christmas morning, the box from Santa was not the same shape as the box I saw in Sears. I cried for an hour and refused to open the gift. My siblings finally convinced me to open it and lo and behold it was baby Holly Hobby from Consumers Distributing. Consumers Distributing packaged things differently. Now you know how old I am.
What is something you enjoy doing that you think no one would expect from you?
I research everything. If I am watching a show and a location is mentioned I pause and research the location for way longer than I should. I love going down the rabbit hole.
How do you spend your time when you’re not working with REIX?
I enjoy time with family and friends. My two teenagers keep me busy.
The Real Estate Insurance Exchange (REIX) provides mandatory errors and omissions insurance to approximately 13,500 Alberta and Saskatchewan real estate industry members and protects them from financial loss due to negligent acts while performing their real estate duties. Follow us on Facebook!
